The Immaculata Symphony will hold its annual spring concert, Radiant Light, on Saturday, Apr. 13, at 7:30 PM in Alumnae Hall on the campus of Immaculata University. The Immaculata Symphony is a university-community organization with a long and outstanding tradition that goes back to the University’s founding in 1920.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for senior citizens, and students and children may attend for free. They can be purchased online or at the door.

Spectacular sonorities abound in this concert of symphonic music both old and new. Chris Rogerson’s sparkling work “Luminosity,” composed in 2010, opens the program in an evocative presentation of textures and timbres. Then Johannes Brahms’ “Variations on a Theme by Haydn” displays the composer’s skill of transforming Joseph Haydn’s theme into eight intriguing new passages. The concert concludes with a triumphant display of the unconquerable human spirit in Dmitri Shostakovich’sSymphony No. 5 in D minor.”

Joseph Gehring, Chair of the Immaculata University Music Department and Director of Ensembles, serves as the Conductor for the spring concert.

In 2011, he was appointed Music Director of the Immaculata Symphony. Gehring actively conducts the West Chester Band and Chesco Pops Orchestra and is a frequent guest conductor of various honor/festival bands and orchestras throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware. He earned a Master of Music Performance degree in orchestral conducting and is an Associate Faculty in Music at Immaculata.
