Westtown Township was awarded $2 million from Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to acquire and preserve Crebilly Farm, one of the largest, historically significant spaces of open land left in Chester County, according to a report from the Daily Local News.

Part of the property—208 acres—is working to be preserved with Natural Lands to become a Township Park, and the remaining 104 acres are meant to be purchased to become conservation easement parcels.

“This is the best defense against increased traffic congestion, higher school district and local taxes, and infrastructure problems like flooding that inevitably come with large influxes of new residential construction,”said state Rep. Dianne Herrin. “Simply put, saving Crebilly helps save this entire community and preserve all of the reasons people live here in the first place.”

Yet, work is not finished to save Crebilly. Westtown residents are urged to vote on the open space referendum during the election in November. With their support, the township will be able to fund more open space preservations.
