The Spring-Ford School Board voted 8-1 to move toward the renovation and expansion of Spring City Elementary School worth $17.4 million, writes Evan Brandt for The Daily Local News

The vote still does not commit the district fully to the project. The school district administration, along with the school board’s building committee, set up the project with three decision points.

The affirmative vote by the school board checks off the first point. It provides the district with the authorization to spend $341,000 or less to meet with experts and prepare some conceptual schematics both for the 64-year-old building’s renovation and the planned 7,000-square-foot addition.

“This vote is for schematics only,” said board member Clinton Jackson.

The second decision point is expected to come in August when the district would commission formal architectural and engineering designs at a cost of around $1.8 million.

The third and final decision is expected in April 2024 when the board will have to decide whether it wants to proceed with construction.
