Nottingham-Based Herr Foods Sees Tortilla Chips Skyrocketing in Popularity
Nottingham-based Herr Foods is among the snack producers that have seen an increase in sales of tortilla chips both before and during the pandemic, writes Beth Day for BakingBusiness.com.
Tortilla chips – a favorite for snacking at home – posted an increase in sales of almost $46 million for the period ending March 15, 2020, compared to the same period the previous year. During that time, tortilla chips ranked among the top salty snack subcategories for dollar growth.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we saw a shift toward larger pack sizes more than a product segment transition, with the exception of tortilla chips, which was a well-documented favorite for those staying home,” said Jim Herr, senior vice president of marketing and R&D at Herr Foods.
Tortilla chips have skyrocketed in popularity due to several factors, including the fact they are perceived as a healthier snack option made with natural ingredients. The snack also has a variety of unique flavor profiles that are influenced by cuisines from around the globe.
