FROM DELCO: Media-Based Logistics Company Takes Advantage of ‘Big’ Boom in Online Shopping

Media’s Pilot Freight Services specializes in delivering the bulkiest and heaviest items ordered from online retailers.

The boom in online shopping shows no signs of abating, and one Delaware County logistics company is taking full advantage of the trend, writes Sam Wood for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Media’s Pilot Freight Services specializes in delivering the bulkiest and heaviest items. The company employs hundreds of trucks and has a network of 75 warehouses across North America and Western Europe.

The company saw its e-commerce deliveries grow by 40 percent between 2015 and 2016, to $172 million in revenue. Pilot employs almost 1,000 people around the globe and expects to achieve gross revenue of $630 million this year, a jump of 9.5 percent.

According to Pilot’s CEO, Gordon Branov, now that the shoppers have gotten accustomed to purchasing smaller items online, they are moving up to bigger things. These include massage chairs and kid-size SUVs which can be tricky to deliver due to their size.

Enter Pilot, which has been rush-shipping huge industrial items since the 1970s. It has call centers locally and internationally that field 2,000 calls a day. But on Dec. 11, the biggest shipping day in the year, that jumped to around 7,000.
