The future of technology hinges on the education of the next-generation workforce, something that Exton-based packaging machinery manufacturer All-Fill Inc. understands very well.

All-Fill recently welcomed a group of visitors to its facility from Downingtown Area Robotics (DAR) Club. DAR is a nonprofit that nourishes the minds and nurtures the creativity of K-12 students in Chester County and always welcomes helping hands who want to further their mission of teaching kids STEM and leadership skills.

DAR’s Team 14423, otherwise known as the RoboCorns, is comprised of young students from the surrounding area and broken into a variety of age groups. They compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge, a competition that designs accessible, innovative programs to build self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills while motivating young people to pursue opportunities in science, technology, and engineering.

The RoboCorns’ visit enabled them to learn more about All Fill’s electromechanical machinery and compare it to their own robotic creations.

“The machinery that All-Fill manufactures is involved in the creation of products that we use every day,” said one DAR member. “We learned that they follow a process that is very similar to what we do during the robotics competition season. We enjoyed meeting some of the engineers, touring the assembly shop and seeing future careers that utilize skills that we learn in robotics.”

All-Fill supports local, tech-minded individuals like the RoboCorns who are interested in learning more about the numerous opportunities within manufacturing. All-Fill’s staff members gave them a tour, explained their internal processes, and helped the students understand the importance of each step of the design process – something they pay close attention to during competition season.

“As each of us grows up, finding careers that relate to the work that we do for our robotics team is something that we are exploring,” said Lasya Tirumamidi, Team Captain of the RoboCorns. “This tour truly opened our eyes to some of the machinery that is involved in packaging everyday products.”

Tirumamidi and the team plan to stay connected to the company, seeking advice and mentorship, as they prepare for their upcoming FIRST Tech Challenge competition in August. To learn more about DAR or to help support their efforts, please go to www.darobotics.org.
