After a two-year stain on the Coatesville Gateway project, environmental concerns stemming from a former dry cleaner building have finally been cleaned up, and wrecking balls are ready to provide a clean slate this summer.

DEPG and Legend Properties are moving forward with a July target date for demolition and a November start date for redevelopment of the stores on the north side of Lincoln Highway from First Avenue to the Coatesville Cultural Center, according to a Daily Local News report by Brian McCullough.

The Cultural Center is slated to get a new sports bar on its first floor once the Coatesville Gateway project gets under way.

Also coming are an Italian restaurant, a daycare center, other retail and office space, a public parking garage, and a realignment of the Lincoln Highway-First Avenue intersection.

Once ground is broken, the Coatesville Gateway is expected to be finished in 12 months.

“We want to make a statement” said Legend CEO Jim DePetris. “At one time, Coatesville was the center of shopping for the surrounding area. You look at Phoenixville, at West Chester, at Northern Liberties — that’s what we envision.”
