Elverson-based Brandywine Branch Distillers is continuing its rapid expansion in North America by gaining a foothold in New England, the South, and Canada, writes Kenneth Hilario for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

According to distillery co-owner Don Avellino, last year set up this year’s big plans. At the beginning of 2018, its gin was available in just 12 Pennsylvania liquor stores. By the beginning of this year, this had expanded to 80 state stores. Currently, the company’s staff of 12 are on track to grow sales by 174 percent over last year.

Brandywine Branch Distillers has also been expanding outside of Pennsylvania. It now has distribution in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Florida and even has whiskey purchase orders in Canada.

The next step is to expand into Tennessee later this year.

The distillery was also planning to expand into Europe. But this has been put on hold for now, as the international trade war is making gin prices potentially vulnerable.

“To this point, the gin category has not been affected,” said Avellino, “but the E.U. released a 10-page document with products with additional tariffs, and gin is one of those.”
