Downingtown 12th Grader Starts Nonprofit to Destigmatize Hearing Loss
A senior at Downingtown STEM Academy is using his experience with hearing loss to help others. In addition to being a full-time student, Yaduraj Choudary is the founder of 3 Tiny Bones, a nonprofit that raises awareness about hearing loss, writes Tom Kretschmer for 6ABC.
Choudary, who was born with hearing loss, had to have four surgeries on the ear bones. When he was in 6th grade, he experienced bullying for wearing a hearing aid. Choudary spends his time as the leader visiting schools and educating others.
He even met with Pennsylvania Senators Pat Toomey and Bob Casey about his cause. Choudary was awarded with a proclamation by the Chester County Commissioners for his advocacy work.
“We just want to make sure we destigmatize hearing loss and protect kids’ hearing. Hearing is a vital sense. It’s important that we protect it because we use it every day…Those causes aligned for me and that’s why I started 3 Tiny Bones,” said Choudary.
