Grocery chains have become bigger than ever by acquiring their smaller local and regional competitors, with Walmart, Kroger, Aldi (Süd), and Albertsons now owning a third of all the grocery store locations in the country, write Kevin Schaul and Jaclyn Peiser for The Washington Post

While three of the four grocery giants are present in Chester County, the top spot for the highest share of stores goes to Giant Food, owned by Ahold Delhaize, at 21 percent.

Albertsons is next, with ten percent of the grocery market belonging to its Acme stores. Aldi, owned by Aldi (Süd), comes in next with its seven percent share of stores.

Target takes up six percent of the grocery market, while Walmart owns about the same six percent share of stores in the county.
