Here’s Where You Can Stargaze in Chester County
While getting a clear sky in Philadelphia can be challenging due to light pollution, Chester County offers plenty of stargazing opportunities, writes Henry Savage for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
While many believe that stargazing is an expensive and intimidating hobby, there is no need for big telescopes to enjoy a beautiful night sky, according to the Philly Moon Men and Franklin Institute chief astronomer Derrick Pitts.
“The lowest level you can start at is just go outside and look up, and if you pick the right time to do that, there’s a whole host of things you can see without any optical aid,” he said.
One of the best spots for stargazing in Chester County is French Creek State Park in Elverson. This is one of Pitts’ personal favorite spots in the region as it has barely any light pollution.
However, you do not have to go far from home to enjoy stargazing, as the county has plenty of areas throughout that have low light pollution and can provide great spots to observe the night sky. These are usually local parks or tops of some of the taller buildings in the county.
