Finance Basics for New Entrepreneurs

On Wednesday, June 7, from 6 to 7 PM, at the Chester County Library and District Center, learn about various options to finance your business.

Financing is one of the most important components to starting and maintaining a business. The number one question that most new business owners ask is how and where? This seminar will dive into finance options and creative ways to secure financing for business owners.

About the Presenter

Saneria Henderson, Branch Leader for Truist Financial Corporation, is responsible for managing all aspects of the Branch, including driving branch performance through leading, coaching, and managing business development, small business expertise, development, and strategy. She also ensures compliance with internal controls, operational procedures, and risk management policies.

On June 12, from 10 to 11:30 AM, at CareerLink PA Chester County, find out what it takes to be an entrepreneur. Whether you are considering starting a new business, turning your side gig into a full-time job, or trying to earn an income from your hobby, this workshop is for you.

Small business ownership comes in many forms. From starting a business, purchasing a franchise, or buying an existing business, there are some things you should consider; some questions to answer.

This presentation is designed to introduce you to various aspects of business ownership to help you answer:

  • Do I have the personality to “build my dream business”?
  • How do I get started?
  • What should I know before “jumping” in?
  • Where can I go for support? 

About the Presenter

Jerry Francis spent his career in sales and marketing, working in distribution/channel development for multiple product lines, with small entrepreneurs and major distributors for a Fortune 50 company. Francis is a SCORE volunteer, serving as a Mentor, Presenter, Board Member, and former Chair.

How to Start and Operate a Small Business

On June 21, from 6 to 7:30 PM, at the Chester County Library and District Center, learn how to start a small business.

You have come to the right place, if you are in the early stages of thinking about starting a small business, or even, if you have started up your business, and realized you missed a few things. If you are thinking about “becoming your own boss” this is a chance to get an overview of the things you need to know.

Join attorney and SCORE presenter, Frank Farmer in a discussion of the ‘nuts and bolts” issues that should be considered when starting and operating a small business.

Farmer will discuss topics including the need and usefulness of developing a business plan; selecting a business organizational structure; fictitious name registration; licensing; hiring employees vs. independent contractors; obtaining tax identification numbers and other related topics (as time permits).

About the Presenter

A graduate of Widener School of Law and a member of the Pennsylvania Bar, Frank P. Farmer, Jr. has been engaged in the private practice of law since 1980. 

Located in Kennett Square, but providing services throughout the Delaware Valley region, Farmer’s practice concentrates on the area of small business transactions, which includes the representation of individuals and business entities; starting, operating, and/or buying/selling small businesses. 

His services include, but are not limited to, incorporation services and registration of fictitious names; preparation and review of leases, contracts, employment agreements, shareholder/operating /partnership agreements; representation of buyers/sellers of businesses, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.

About the Presenter

Jack Luke started with SCORE as a workshop presenter in 2018 and since 2022 has supported chapter clients as a Subject Matter Expert (Nonprofits).

With close to 25 years as a nonprofit executive and consultant for small and midsized NPOs, Luke also has business and entrepreneurial experience in consultative sales, financial services, manufacturing operations, and business communications for 30 years in the Philadelphia region.

He has served on the board of several nonprofits including his current position on the human services NPO advisory board. Luke has a Postbaccalaureate Certificate in Nonprofit Management, La Salle University School of Business and is an alumnus of St. Joseph’s University Haub School of Business.
