Scott Montgomery published his first book in February, which will be available at UVA's libraries.

West Chester-raised Scott Montgomery has an untraditional success story. The newly published author, entrepreneur, husband, and father of three is about to complete his undergraduate education, writes Rob Seal for UVAToday

Montgomery is working to receive a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies online for the University of Virginia. Virtual education allowed him to run his consulting business and write his first book.

“I slacked some in high school, but I made it through,” he said. “I tried the community college route right out of high school, but I found out the hard way that partying and spending money was more fun. I was fortunate, because I was around people who saw I had potential.”

Following college, Montgomery took a job in sales and realized that starting a business was his calling. Montgomery and his wife Katelyn drew up a plan and soon his business model, Worldgate, was born. But tragedy struck in 2019 when Montgomery’s brother passed away unexpectedly. The death made him realize the importance of legacy, so he sought out to publish his first book.

How Did You Get Here? Lessons of Unconventional Success was published in February. This spring, the debut author will finally become a graduate.
