SCORE is the largest network of volunteer business experts, now with over 10,000 nationally and 100 members locally in Chester County and Delaware County. SCORE volunteers offer their time, insight, guidance, and skill to help small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals.

SCORE members are professional business leaders, owners, or experts with real-world experience in every sector. Some are retired, others are small business owners or working full- or part-time in small or large businesses. Every volunteer knows how good it feels to give back and make a meaningful difference in our communities, helping entrepreneurs avoid some of the ‘bumps in the road.’

In April, the local volunteers celebrated National Volunteer Month. Mentors and workshop presenters shared some of their reflections on why they joined SCORE.

At SCORE, volunteers believe that every person deserves the support he or she needs to thrive as a viable small business owner or nonprofit leader. The impact of their efforts is ultimately measured by the number of new businesses that open year after year, and the number of new jobs created.

Not only during National Volunteer Month but every month of the year, SCORE celebrates the valuable contributions of volunteer business experts across all parts of the U.S.  In 2022, SCORE volunteers across the US:

– Donated 4.65 million hours of service

– Supported the launch of 30,453 small businesses

– Helped create 112,570 total jobs, including 82,117 non-owner jobs

– Provided 278,783 mentoring sessions

“Our volunteers are the backbone of SCORE, using their years of business experience to help entrepreneurs succeed,” said SCORE CEO Bridget Weston. “They demonstrate a strong commitment to the small business community, and it is rewarding to see the hard work of these mentors – and their clients – pay off. The creation of these new businesses and jobs is vital to both the local and national economies.”

SCORE Chester and Delaware Counties has been operating since 1985, with 100 dedicated volunteers today who provide confidential mentoring at no charge and offer business seminars, workshops and webinars to benefit the local community.
