New York Times: Philadelphia Is the Perfect Weekend Destination for Food-obsessed Travelers

With its fantastic lineup of renowned restaurants and many hidden gems, Philadelphia is the perfect weekend destination for food-obsessed travelers, wrote Nikita Richardson for The New York Times.

You should start your visit to the city in South Philadelphia. If Mexican food is your preference, stop by a newer addition to the city’s restaurant scene, El Chingon.

Its menu is rooted in the Puebla region, with mouthwatering shrimp and calamari aguachile and cemitas served on homemade bread. The eatery is BYOB, but you can solve that easily by grabbing a beer from the nearby Cartesian Brewing.

Gabriella’s Vietnam offers world-altering Vietnamese food, with a Vietnamese-style brunch served on weekends. One of the must-try meals is the catfish hotpot with its tasty broth, and water fern dumplings “topped with crackled pork and shrimp.”

In Fishtown, grab a coffee at the LGBTQ-owned Persimmon Coffee.

Follow this up with an afternoon tipple at the Middle Child Clubhouse, or, if you prefer beer, Bottle Bar East, before you head to Kalaya. The delicious Thai food on offer here includes duck larb salad and garlic chive rice cakes.
