Laura Manion is harnessing the strengths and weaknesses of Chester County. The President & CEO of the Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry says that the county sets itself apart due to its business development resources while also maintaining land preservation, according to Capital Analytics Associates.

“We have the best of rural, suburban and urban environments — and Chester County is continually nationally ranked as one of the healthiest, wealthiest and most educated counties,” she said.

In the past year, the chamber has increased public-private partnerships and started advocacy policies. They’ve also made successful efforts in helping the county’s workforce.

Manion says that the council sprang into action following layoffs at QVC, by offering assistance to former employees as well as the West Chester-based company.

The President and CEO also tackled the long childcare waitlists for Pennsylvania parents head-on. She testified to the Children and Youth Committee in Pennsylvania House of Representatives and offered suggestions on how the state can fund childcare.

This year, the key priorities for the chamber are making investments in transportation infrastructure, and prioritizing tourism and economic development programs. Manion also said that the chmaber is trying to reduce the county’s carbon impact.
