An HBO action-fueled zombie drama is infecting hearts across the nation, and a Chester County town could soon cash in on it, writes Andre Lamar for the Delaware News Journal.

The Last of Us is based off a video game, that takes place during a zombie pandemic. This virus is a fungus, called cordyceps. In real life, this kind of fungi mostly infects arthropods.

This show has been all the rage in Kennett Square, the mushroom capital of the world. Sandra Morris who runs Portabellos, a mushroom restaurant in Kennett Square, said she’s been urged by her colleagues to watch the show.

“I’m one of those people that doesn’t like to watch shows once, and then you have to wait until next week for the next one. So I’m just gonna binge it,” she said.

Nationwide, there’s a popularity boom in mushroom-based merchandise, due to shrooms having a low carbon. Lampshades, packaging material, and even shoes are being made with mycelium.
