Downingtown West basketball star Dylan Blair will continue his sports and educational careers in the Army, writes Joey Piatt for The Philadelphia Inquirer

Blair started playing basketball with his brother Hunter. Both were learning from their father, Damien, who is a former standout guard at West Chester University, where he currently works as the men’s basketball coach.

Blair started working out with the Whippets, where he caught the eye of Downingtown West coach Stuart Ross.

“I knew Dylan had a chance to be a pretty special player because of his athleticism, because of his basketball IQ, and because of how hard he competed on every possession,” said Ross.

And Ross was right to believe in the young player. By sophomore year, Blair was team captain.

He recently started attracting interest from several Division I programs, such as Penn, Navy, and Colgate. However, once West Point reached out to him, Blair immediately knew what to do.

“The opportunity to play Division I basketball, the opportunity to serve my country, and the opportunity to have a great education, I felt like it kind of was a no-brainer,” he said.
