Construction Underway for Coatesville’s New Train Station
A new state-of-the-art, ADA-compliant train station is underway in Coatesville. The $65 million station is set to be completed by late 2025. Some construction at the site has been completed, but there’s still plenty of work that needs to be done, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
So far, platform placements, retaining walls, lighting, stair and elevator towers, and parking lot construction still needs to be completed.
Local and state funds have invested $9.5 million for the 300-space parking garage, with the overall goal being $13 million.
“When city residents see actual construction it energizes them and makes them more hopeful that we are stepping into the 21st Century like other cities and municipalities,” City Mananger James Logan said.
The building, which is owned by Amtrak, has been closed for over 25 years. The station, which will be along Fleetwood Street will have ADA-compliant platforms, bike racks, access to a pedestrian underpass, as well as “kiss-and-ride” areas.
Fleetwood Street will also be redeveloped for the new station and retail spaces.
