While the holiday season is a time of generosity and thankfulness spent with family and friends, it can also be a source of stress, burnout, and loss of focus, writes James C. Price for Refresh Leadership, a blog of Express Employment Professionals.

Several strategies can help you maintain focus during the holidays and end the year strong.

As December is one of the busiest times of the year, be sure to maintain a healthy work/life balance by taking a vacation day before the holidays hit. Taking a day in the middle of the month can be less taxing on your co-workers and will help you cross some major items off your to-do list.

Since this is an extremely busy time at work, it usually requires all hands on deck. So it is important to work on time management with everybody, as well as delegating tasks when needed.

Finally, it is important to be realistic about what can be accomplished during this period to avoid end-of-the-year burnout. Evaluate the most important achievements your team should focus on and separate them from the tasks that are nice-to-haves but not necessarily imperative to your organization’s success.
