Independent Marketing Consultant Jocelyn Harris was recently chosen as the new Board President of Phoenixville’s 122-year-old arts venue, the Colonial Theatre. Harris assumes leadership of the nonprofit from outgoing President Suzanne V. Norris of Century 21 Norris-Valley Forge Realtors in Phoenixville.

Harris is a Collegeville resident and veteran marketing and merchandising expert who previously held roles at Bloomingdales, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and HBO—where she was Regional Vice President of Sales & Marketing. She later joined Paradigm Group Consultants, where she oversaw business operations.

Harris was drawn to the not-for-profit theater by its rich history. Her main goal is to provide the Executive Director with the support needed to “imagine a new future while staying true to our mission, vision, and values.” She has been a member of the Colonial Theatre’s Board of Directors for 13 years, and is originally from Atlanta, Ga. and a graduate of Spelman College.

The Colonial is a 120-year old, three-screen movie theater and performance venue located in Phoenixville’s walkable downtown business district. In 2017, just two years prior to the pandemic, film and live programming expanded significantly with the opening of a new wing. The community treasure, was designated an Anchor Building by the Commonwealth and has won multiple awards for that building expansion project, including from the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.

In August, the Colonial completed its first full year of ‘normal’ programming since the beginning of the pandemic. Like its peers in the arts sector, the Colonial is still rebounding from COVID-19 attendance impacts. Harris will help lead the nonprofit’s first strategic planning process in over a decade alongside Executive Director Jennifer Carlson, who assumed leadership of the Colonial this spring.

“As a nonprofit arts organization, there is always the need to balance vision with resources,” said Harris. “I understand this challenge and know that we have to keep building our resources so our rich history continues.”

Joining Harris as new Board Officers are Vice Presidents Susan Berry-Gorelli and MaryLouise Sterge; Treasurer Matt Carberry; and Secretary Pauline Monson.
