Work on the new $65 million Coatesville train station is proceeding as planned, with the completion date still set for fall 2025, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News

The project includes design, the construction of the station and streetscape, Amtrak support, and Amtrak track work at Fleetwood Street.

Currently, workers are performing foundation work for the south platform area. This foundation work will proceed through early spring 2023. The next phase will include the construction of platforms and an elevator as well as stair towers on the south side.

According to a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation release, the project’s overall budget and schedule are “good.”

City Manager James Logan noted that once it is completed, the station will have a huge impact on the community and a ripple effect.

“When city residents see actual construction, it energizes them and makes them more hopeful that we are stepping into the 21st Century like other cities and municipalities,” said Logan.

He was especially pleased that the station will be state-of-the-art, ADA compliant.

“Some of the folks who couldn’t ride the trains for years will be able to,” he added.
