Cory Peters — who grew up in New Florence, a small borough in Westmoreland County, and graduated from Laurel Valley High School — is the Calibration Lab Manager/Chief Metrologist at Constellation PowerLabs, an accredited laboratory in Coatesville that performs quality calibrations and testing services.

Peters served six-plus years in the U.S. Air Force and earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from the Community College of the Air Force. His proudest professional achievement is being a Member Delegate of the NCSLI (National Conference of Standard Laboratories International) and participating in the development of its educational outreach programs.

Peters shared his perspective on leadership.

“A successful leader is someone who communicates clearly and regularly,” he said. “This communication includes listening intently to the input from your team. I try to inspire others by focusing on their strengths to help them overcome their flat spots.”

Of the 12 Principles of the Scout Law — Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent — “Trustworthy” and “Loyal” resonate the most with Peters.

“Trustworthiness is critical to the field in which I work,” he said. “It is critical to maintain a high level of quality and business ethics. Loyalty, in particular, has had a marked impact on my career as well. My loyalty to my company and the work I perform is second to none. As such, I am invested in the success of the company, and it is recognized.”

The Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America will honor Peters and the 11 other VISTA Leadership Megastars at an awards reception on Thursday, Oct. 20 at its new Program, Activity, and Resource Campus (PARC) in Exton. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Lisa Antonucci at Lisa.Antonucci@scouting.org or 610-696-2900 x 112.
