New Garden Township is rolling out development of the Saint Anthony’s in the Hills Park, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press.

The two-phase project will provide ample recreational space at the 137-acre property for the community. The first phase includes a trail system that is expected to open in Fall of 2023. A playground, gazebos, and open-air gym will be part of the second phase in the summer of 2024.

Mike Buck, the township’s Parks and Open Space Superintendent, said that there will also be a re-branding of Saint Anthony’s. The township plans to create partnerships between the park and local businesses. He estimates that the first phase will be $50,000.

“Buck’s presentation served in some ways as a response to a presentation he gave at the board’s Aug. 15 meeting …[where] the board called for a more “phased-in approach,” writes Gaw.

It is unknown when the swim club Splash New Garden will continue its development. The construction of the club came to a halt before it was set to open in May of 2021.

The township acquired the property in 2018 with the purpose of rehabilitating the amenities for public use and transforming it into a park. The property, which includes old golf courses, an amphitheater, picnic pavilions, and swimming pools is located on Limestone Road.
