Habitat for Humanity of Chester County envisions a world where everyone has an affordable house that they can call their home. Through the 19th annual golf outing event, community members can support Habitat’s mission by sponsoring or playing a game of golf on a prestigious, private course in Chester County.

Register online for Sept. 19, 2022, at the Hartefeld National Course in Avondale to help make a difference in the future of a family in need.

Registration begins at 9 AM, along with a bloody mary and mimosa bar. The shotgun start goes off at 10:30 AM and there are gourmet lunch and snack stations on the course. At 3:30 PM, there will be a cocktail and buffet reception, as well as a putting contest. Finally, a silent auction and awards will be held at 4 PM.

You may not think you’re fulfilling a life-changing dream by putting a few rounds on the green, but that’s exactly what you’re doing.

Now more than ever, families need the security and stability of a quality home they can afford. 1 in 7 households spend half or more of their income on housing, and that statistic affects more than just those individual households.

“We [Habitat] provide a hand up and not a handout,” said Ted Zobian, Habitat board member and chair of the golf committee. “Our families help build their own houses with sweat equity, and they get a reasonable mortgage so that they can create a home for their children in the house that they helped build. The golf outing is our largest fundraising event and with your support we can help these great families realize their dream of owning a home.”

Studies show that better, affordable living conditions lead to improved health, stronger childhood development and give families the ability to make forward-looking choices. Furthermore, proper shelter creates jobs, revitalizes neighborhoods, attracts employers, increases consumer spending and government revenues, and lowers the risk of foreclosure, all while bringing transformative benefits to families and developing resiliency in communities.

Casey and Daniel Robledo had started to lose hope. Their two-year old daughter old, Lucia, never had a bedroom. Her bed and toys were in the family’s living room since the day she was born. They desperately needed more space, but with the cost of everyday items increasing and home prices surging out of control, they thought they would never be able to afford a home big enough for their family.

“We spent every free moment I had for over a month filling out paperwork and gathering files in the hopes of being approved,” said Casey Robledo. “I will never forget the day we found out we were approved for our home. It was right after Christmas and the best gift the universe could have given my family. I have never felt a prouder moment in my life, and I am so glad my children got to experience that moment of pride with their parents.”

Supporting Habitat’s golf outing means building more homes that will free families from financial instability, stress, and from impossible choices between essential needs. That freedom leads to strength, stability and self-reliance, which is truly life-changing for them and constructs the foundation for a stronger community.
