Chester County will receive millions of dollars through the state’s Marcellus Legacy Fund for a variety of environmental projects, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News

The fund uses the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program to finance planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation, and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open spaces, parks, and beautification projects.

“As we continue to face increased precipitation and extreme weather events, these funds can help support communities in effectively managing stormwater runoff to better protect our streams and water resources,” said state Senator Carolyn Comitta.

As part of this program, Kennett Square Borough will receive $125,000 to restore Red Clay Park. The borough plans to create a transformative urban green space and a trial in the heart of the community.

Meanwhile, other projects that will receive funding through the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program include Pocopson Township Pocopson Township Trail Related Support Facilities ($250,000), Natural Lands Trust, Incorporated Osborne Hill Easement Acquisition ($250,000), and East Goshen Township Hershey’s Mill Park Renovation ($250,000).

Additionally, more projects include East Whiteland Township Sidley Road to Chester Valley Trail Connection ($250,000) and The Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County Acquisition to Expand White Clay Creek Preserve ($125,000).
