Shawn Manderson, a 2003 Penn State alumnus, has committed $30,000 to establish the Penn State Brandywine Leadership and Legacy Excellence Program Fund.

The fund will create new initiatives on campus to advance leadership and excellence for students, faculty, and staff.

“Shawn is a long-standing and dedicated member of the Penn State Brandywine campus community and is passionate about the student experience we offer to each of our students and to developing their leadership acumen,” said Brandywine Chancellor Marilyn J. Wells.

The process will begin in the 2022-23 academic year, when a chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success is created on campus.

The campus will also sponsor one faculty and one staff member to the prestigious Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP), administered in Pennsylvania by the Educational Policy Leadership Center in Harrisburg.

The gift will make it possible to bring new national- and state-level opportunities to Brandywine students and to the world-class faculty and staff who lead them, Wells said.

“Our students, faculty, and staff will benefit from having the ability to have their leadership/decision-making process enhanced,” Manderson said. “You will have to make decisions in ambiguous situations; you’re never going to have all of the information, and you have to use your fundamentals.”

Manderson collaborated with Chancellor Wells and leveraged his employer’s matching-gift program to make the fund possible.

The new fund is in line with Penn State Brandywine’s new strategic plan, supporting academic and career success, connections and belonging, equity and inclusion, and professional fulfillment, Wells said.

Manderson was a student at Penn State Hazleton in 1999 before transitioning to Penn State Brandywine after two years. He pursued an information sciences and technology degree and graduated in 2003, beginning a successful 20-year career in IT consulting, auditing and risk management.

He now works at ADP and has been promoted from manager to director and is currently ADP vice president of enterprise risk management.

He is a Brandywine Advisory Board member and former Brandywine Alumni Society Board president.
