The HCOC Cars for Charity event is Sept. 18 at 60 Three Tun Rd., Malvern.

West Chester’s HC Opportunity Center (HCOC) — the rebrand of the former Handi-Crafters employment- and disability-focused outreach — will be the benefactor of the largest car show in Malvern next month.

It’s the second edition for Cars for Charity, an event that got the gas in its tank in 2021 from Charles Waterman, Owner of Closets by Design (CBD).

CBD, Malvern, is an HCOC business partner, reflecting a relationship Waterman forged out of his own observation of declining job opportunities for the unique employees HCOC engages.

“We wanted to help offset the loss of income for their workers by utilizing our facility to throw a fun charity event that the whole community can be a part of,” Waterman said.

Joining CBD in the car-show event is Locust Lane Craft Brewery, also of Malvern. Its principals see the role as event and beverage partner as dovetailing seamlessly with its ongoing commitment to develop strong community roots.

“We’re excited to partner with our neighbors at CBD for a second time. Our first event last year was a big hit, and we hope to make an even bigger impact with this year’s show,” said Steph Eby, Locust Lane Marketing and Communications Manager.

The Sept. 18 car show will be a judged event welcoming all makes and models of vehicles, from classic cars to hot rods, motorcycles, and unique entries. It will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the CBD parking lot at 60 Three Tun Rd., Malvern, adjacent to Locust Lane Craft Brewery.

Judges will be critiquing all registered vehicles in a variety of categories, with awards that include Best in Show and Best in Class. Attendees will also be able to enjoy a fleet of food trucks, Locust Lane’s craft beer trailer, live music by the CBD band, games, and kid’s activities.

All registration fees — and a portion of the food/beverage sales — will go to the HCOC.

Car enthusiasts wanting to show their wheels can still register; potential vendors can also climb aboard the event by contacting contact Locust Lane’s Eby by email.
