The new Chestnut Street Garage Pollinator Garden in West Chester offers another place for bees and butterflies to feast in the borough and provides residents and visitors with a slice of beauty to enjoy, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News

The 1,700-square-foot pollinator garden was sponsored by the Business Improvement District in partnership with West Chester Green Team and funded by West Chester Business Improvement District.

“Attempts at planting a garden behind the Chestnut Street Garage has happened in fits and starts over the last several years,” said BID Executive Director John O’Brien.  “Starting in 2021, we knew that we wanted to make a concentrated effort to create a beautiful and welcoming garden for borough residents and visitors.”

The garden started to take shape last fall when trees and shrubs were planted. This spring, flowers were added.

“The more plants we have soaking up, the better,” said Jonathan Long, West Chester resident, Green Team member, and member of the BID executive board.

Organizers are now hoping to have the garden designated as a “Pennsylvania Pollinator Friendly Garden” by Penn State University.
