Exton-based A Haven is preparing for the launch of Give Grief Hope (GGH), an annual fundraiser that harnesses the power of social media to support grieving families in the community.

GGH is in need of business sponsors and runs from Aug. 15-30, concluding on Grief Awareness Day.

Smedley Orthodontics is one such business that has supported A Haven for more than three years.

“A Haven provides invaluable grief support services to our local community, and we believe strongly in the importance of the work that they do,” said Drs. Larry Smedley, Chris Smedley, and Kendra Smedley. “We are honored to support their mission so they can continue to provide services to as many individuals and families in need as possible.”

More than 30 people will be fundraising on A Haven’s behalf to help it achieve its $125,000 goal. Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn are a few of the social media platforms that the nonprofit utilizes to further its mission.

These advocates are individuals who have poignant stories to share and care deeply about spreading awareness of A Haven’s family-centered approach to grieving, which is a normal, natural response to loss.

“Grief from the loss of a loved one affects almost all of us,” said Cheryl Gaudi of Hughes & Hughes Family Dentistry in Glenmoore. “Too often, the children are left to deal with this grief on their own. A Haven provides a much-needed service to help these children and teens navigate this difficult grief journey, and Hughes & Hughes Family Dentistry is honored to support that.”

Through grief education for families, A Haven aims to equip adults with the ability to lead their children through grief in a healthy and trusting manner.

A Haven will gather with its board of directors at Locust Lane Craft Brewery in Malvern on Aug. 24 to encourage donations to GGH.

A Haven recently hosted a community breakfast at Epicurean Garage in Chester Springs. The first-time event celebrated the community and the businesses and organizations that support A Haven’s mission.

“It is only because of them that a small nonprofit without an endowment fund has been able to thrive through a pandemic and become a successful, sustainable nonprofit,” said A Haven Executive Director Michelle Noble. “We shared where we’ve been and where we’re going and asked for our community to continue to open doors for us.”

One of those community members opening doors for A Haven is Jonathan Wright, owner of The Wright Agency in Downingtown. Wright has been a business supporter of A Haven for more than a year.

“Being able to hear all about what they have done in the past, are doing now, and planning for the future was motivating and humbling for me,” he said. “The Wright Agency and Wright family will surely continue to support them as one of our local charities we want to see thrive for many years to come.”
