Fulfilling Childhood Dream, Kennett Square Shop Owner Revives Victorian Farmhouse in Her Hometown
Bri Brant, owner of Kennett Square-based Arden + James, has revived the Victorian farmhouse she had admired from childhood as she traveled along Cossart Road in her hometown of Chadds Ford, writes Ashley Breeding for the Main Line Today.
In winter 2020, Brant noticed survey markers in the yard of the 1867 residence. Not wanting to see the property subdivided, she sent a letter to the estate and soon she was touring the home.
“It was a magical time of year with the snow, and I fell in love with everything about it,” she said.
A few months later, the family was settled in their new home they named Victoria.
One of the first things they did was update the kitchen. They installed an island and shaker cabinets along with stainless steel appliances. Brant’s favorite indoor space is the Piano Room, where the sun spills in from all sides. Outside, the family loves to spend time on the enormous enclosed porch.
“This replaced the original porch in the 1980s and was the perfect addition,” said Brant. “It’s perfectly north, so it insulates the colder, darker side of the house.”
