Winning Time, the HBO miniseries about the dynastic rise of the Los Angeles Lakers that was produced by Great Valley High School graduate Adam McKay, has irked Jerry West for its depiction of the NBA legend, writes Chuck Schilken for The Philadelphia Inquirer

McKay, who moved to Malvern when he was 10 years old and graduated from Great Valley in 1986, decided to make the show after reading Jeff Pearlman’s book about the 1980s Lakers, Showtime.

In a letter sent to HBO, West, who played for and coached the Lakers throughout the 1970s, blasted the show for how it portrayed him.

“You replaced the real Jerry West — a consummate professional — with his polar opposite, then portrayed this lie to the public as genuine,” read the letter. “You thereby violated the law.”

He requested a retraction of the depiction and stated he plans to take the network to court if the issue is not resolved.

“If I have to, I will take this all the way to the Supreme Court,” said West.
