After 30-Plus Surgeries, Berwyn Teen Who Miraculously Survived Being Electrocuted Regains Some Independence

By

Austin Beltrante, the Berwyn teen who miraculously survived being electrocuted by a live wire but lost parts of three limbs in the accident, is moving on with his life with the help of his friends, family, and advanced prosthetics, writes Caroline O’Halloran for SAVVY Main Line.

“I feel like I’ve come pretty far,” said the 14-year-old. “I remember when I could barely move my arms and could barely move in general.”

Beltrante, who had to undergo more than 30 surgeries, is currently being fitted for two new forearms and hands. This time, they will have fingers, so he will be able to cook.

He is also excited about being able to walk again and looking forward to rejoining his friends at Conestoga High School for his sophomore year.

To help Austin and his family deal with the constantly growing expenses, a group of friends, neighbors, and strangers also planned to hold “A Night for Austin’s Army” last June at Anthony’s at Paxon Hollow in Media. It was hosted by former Eagles tight end Brent Celek.
