An abandoned project at a subdivision in Kennett Township has left neighbors with this unsightly mess and its environmental risks.

Residents of Timber Ridge Lane in Kennett Township sought municipal help with a nearby eyesore they believe also represents an environmental threat. Richard Gaw, in the Chester County Press, reported their two-year quest to have the situation resolved.

Timber Ridge is a small development of only five homes. Three of them have been completed and are occupied.

The remaining two are the source of the problem.

Work was begun on the remaining lots at the Kennett Pike site but abandoned, leaving them full of scattered tree trunks and deep gorges that routinely fill with rainwater.

At a Kennett Township Board of Supervisors, resident George Plesko spoke on behalf of the two other completed homestead owners. He presented before-and-after photographs of the effects of the soil disturbance, including damage caused to a nearby stream.

Plesko is now asking the township to use its powers to rectify the situation.

“Ordinances and regulations have a purpose that in this particular case, (serve as) an outstanding example of why we have ordinances like we do about woodland preservation,” he said.
