Amidst the question of how much location matters when deciding to start a business, Landenberg resident Sierra RyanWallick discussed why she chose for her company to remain in Delaware despite her living in Pennsylvania, writes Holly Quinn for Technical.ly Delaware.

As the founder of UP Cycle Design, a sustainable fashion brand that creates handmade products with the goal of zero waste, RyanWallick said she was drawn to Delaware and its collaborative environment. Often, companies stationed in Delaware like Facebook, Coco-Cola, and Tesla are based elsewhere, but RyanWallick wanted to be based in Delaware.

Although she runs the company in Delaware, she has not visited the state since the start of the pandemic. She’s immunocompromised and took a gap year after high school and before enrolling in the University of Delaware to battle Lyme disease and related symptoms.

“All of my startup for the past two years has been completely virtual, and we’ve been able to make that work,” said RyanWallick. “I love the Delaware community because even though I’m not technically there right now, I still feel such a draw and everyone’s always welcoming and willing to help out.”
