When Dunwoody Village began Phase 1 of its expansion and renovation of its community-building in November 2020, part of that expansion included all-new dining venues.

Now, as April brings to completion that first phase, and as residents and staff transition into the new settings, there is also a change in its leadership.

John Alberici, who has served as Dunwoody Village’s Director of Dining Services for 27 years, is retiring March 31 and is passing the torch to the new director, Julia McCartha.

Alberici has seen a lot of changes over the years, and he agrees that this transition is an exciting one for residents and staff. Not only will options include casual, waited and private dining venues, but will offer a grab-and-go market and a bar & lounge.

“It’s gratifying to see the culmination of a lot of planning that has gone into state-of-the-art amenities for the residents,” says Alberici. “I’m thrilled to see it come to fruition. New kitchen spaces and new dining venues will all lend themselves to a heightened dining experience for our residents and guests.”

As Alberici sets his sights on retirement, he reflects on his 27 years at Dunwoody. “There have been a lot of changes over the years, but being a part of the residents’ lives has been the best part.”

McCartha assumed her role on Feb. 21 and brings to Dunwoody Village a wealth of food, beverage and restaurant experience, including 11 years with Marriott Corporation, most recently as Director of Restaurants at the Downtown Marriott in Philadelphia.

“I’m excited to be a part of Dunwoody Village,” said Julia. “It’s an exceptional organization, providing exceptional service to exceptional residents!”

Maureen Casey, Dunwoody’s President and CEO, commented that “everyone agreed Julia’s skills and hospitality experience, along with her personality and energy, were a match for Dunwoody Village, and we’re excited to have her on board.”

Dunwoody Village is a five-star quality rated continuing care retirement community located in a suburban setting on 83 acres in Newtown Square.
