West Chester Woman Volunteers with Peace Corps, Uses Marketing Skills to Help South African Nonprofit

By

West Chester resident Kelsey McMahon is among roughly 230 individuals who took part in the Peace Corps’ Virtual Service Pilot, according to a staff report from the Daily Local News.

Virtual Service Pilot was launched in October 2020 as a virtual service that provided former Peace Corps volunteers with the opportunity to donate their services while in the United States through virtual engagements with community-based partners overseas.

McMahon participated in a six-month engagement in the second half of last year. Using her marketing experience and creative writing skills, she was able to help a South African nonprofit improve its online presence.

The process involved the consolidation of navigation menus, improvement of their search engine optimization, and creation of frequently asked questions that would ensure their team did not have to answer the same questions repeatedly. She also made educational brochures for the nonprofit’s online courses and volunteer opportunities.

“I will be forever grateful to the Peace Corps for giving me the chance to experience and learn from South Africa, so it was important to me to help with their latest initiative,” said McMahon.
