Marie-Louise Meyers's poetry has captured the pandemic's fear and its inspiration.

Lower Oxford Township resident Marie-Louise Meyers offers a thoughtful response to the pandemic and its unwanted consequences in her new book of poetry, Isolation and Revelation. Steven Hoffman wrote about the writer for the Chester County Press.

Meyers started working on her fourth book at the onset of the pandemic, and she can still vividly remember the first days when the pandemic became a reality in the nation.

“I felt like the air had a kind of deadness to it,” she said. “I felt like our world changed overnight.”

She wrote the poems presented in her 450-page book day after day as she reflected on the events happening around her. Through her verse, she reacted to the cycles of hope and fear as the pandemic continued on, month after month, surge after surge.

The act of writing provided the 84-year-old poet with comfort. She also found inspiration in recalling our past ability to persevere through times of national trouble.

“Any time we are faced with this kind of situation, it strengthens our resolve,” she said.
