New York Times: COVID-19 Cases Dipping in Chester County

Chester County's COVID-19 case numbers show a slight improvement, but unvaccinated residents are still at risk.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Chester County has continued to dip, crawling from “extremely high” to “very high,” according to The New York Times.

Last week, there was an average of 108 new daily cases reported in the county, which is a 60 percent decrease compared with the two weeks prior. Since the start of the pandemic, at least one in six residents have been infected by COVID-19, totaling 89,517 reported cases.

January 2022 is the month with the highest average cases in Chester County, which is still at extremely high risk for residents who are unvaccinated.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has decreased in the past two weeks by 46 percent. Deaths have also decreased, with 32 new fatalities over the same period.

Meanwhile, as of Feb. 16, the number of fully vaccinated people in the county is at 76 percent. This includes 81 percent of fully vaccinated residents ages five and up and 95 percent of fully vaccinated people ages 65 and up.
