Chester County ranks among the 10 Best Places for Small Business Owners in Pennsylvania, according to a recently released report by SmartAsset.

To determine the places with the strongest small business presence, SmartAsset weighed three main factors to create a small business index:

  • share of county residents reporting a small business income
  • share of that income to countywide small business income
  • taxes paid by small business owners.

Chester County ranked second in the state, behind only Elk County, with a small business index of 39.73. That number put it at No. 1,395 nationwide.

Small business returns are at 22.08 percent, which is under the state average of 27.30 percent, while the amount of tax a potential resident must pay on their income is $9,352.
