With the closure of Brandywine Hospital approaching, Chester County Hospital continues to expand its services to ensure local healthcare demands are met. John George diagnosed the effort for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

This closure will leave the county without its second hospital in as many months, as Jennersville Hospital already closed its doors for good at the end of December.

“Our mission is to serve the healthcare needs of all who come to us for care,” said Chester County Hospital CEO Michael J. Duncan. “Never in our history has our role been so significant.”

Duncan then thanked the Pennsylvania leadership for its support of the hospital, which came in the form of $2.1 million in state funding from the federal American Rescue Plan. The medical center is using these funds to increase the size of its emergency room and to construct a behavioral health treatment area in the hospital’s emergency department.

Part of the funds will also be used to restore inpatient beds that were taken out of service when the West Chester-based hospital opened its $300 million pavilion in 2020.

More about how Chester County Hospital is gearing up to meet changing community needs is in the Philadelphia Business Journal.
