Malvern’s newest apartment community, The Yards, offers an urban environment with stunning amenities in the suburbs, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia magazine.

Although the residences sit near an active transportation stop, the building is ideal for work-from-home professionals.

The new apartment complex — developed by GMH Communities — sits across from the SEPTA Regional Rail tracks near Immaculata University.

“The name is The Yards because the old SEPTA train yard used to be right behind us,” said Gary Holloway, President of GMH. “And there used to be a stop for Immaculata out here. We actually gave them an easement if they want to add it back for us and Immaculata.”

If that were to happen, The Yards would be the perfect place for Immaculata grads to settle into. The complex is perfectly suited for living, working, and studying all within the same place.

“Pre-COVID, we were already on this live, work, and play (idea),” said Holloway. “We went big on the amenities.”

The building includes a computer lounge and several conference rooms for working. As for entertainment, there is a spacious clubhouse with games and a bar for entertaining, a fitness center, a courtyard pool, and much more.

The Yards began leasing units in July, and the first tenants took up residence in October. Currently, about half of the building is leased.
