Chester County's unvaccinated residents remain at a very high risk for COVID-19 infections.

As new variants of COVID-19 continue to emerge, local progress won in fighting the pandemic is becoming progress lost. The number of cases in Chester County remains at a very high level, according to The New York Times.

Last week, there was an average of 209 new daily cases reported in the county, which is a 39 percent increase compared with the prior two weeks. Since the start of the pandemic, at least one in nine residents have been infected by COVID-19, totaling 57,459 reported cases.

The number of residents hospitalized with COVID-19 has increased in the past 14 days by 23 percent. Deaths have also increased, with 14 new fatalities over the same period.

These developments mean that Chester County remains at very high risk for unvaccinated people.

Meanwhile, as of Dec. 9, the number of fully vaccinated people in the county is at 60 percent. This includes 69 percent of fully vaccinated residents ages 12 and up and 83 percent of fully vaccinated people ages 65 and up.
