Since it opened in early August in Berwyn, Otoro Sushi & Grill has been serving standout sushi that both tastes and looks good, writes Caroline O’Halloran for SAVVY Main Line.

The Japanese BYOB offers fresh fish flown in from a Japanese supplier twice weekly. According to co-owner Tiffany Lo, Wednesdays and Fridays are the best nights to visit, timed to these deliveries.

Other than freshness and taste, presentation is also very important at Otoro.

“We try to make every dish edible art,” said Lo. “Every plate looks different.”

The menu offers a selection of the usual tuna, yellowtail, and salmon, along with more exotic fish such as otoro, the tender bluefin tuna belly.

“Like Kobe beef, otoro will melt in your mouth without chewing it,” Lo said.

In addition to sushi, there are plenty of other Japanese favorites to choose from: tempura, teriyaki, katsu, and Udon. Hibachi steak and seafood and chicken dishes are also on the menu.

And for those who cannot decide what they want, there is Omakase — a multicourse feast chosen by the chef.
