Kennett Square chef Lisa Keys had a grain of an idea: try to win the 2021 People’s Choice title at the national Get Wild with Wild Rice Recipe Contest. Jen Samuel scooped up this story for the Daily Local News.

“Cook from your heart,” Keys said, citing her culinary outlook. “When your recipes are made from the heart, they taste so much better.”

This year’s competition is the 12th annual iteration of the contest held by the Minnesota Cultivated Wild Rice Council. In addition to getting a cash prize, the winner also receives an automatic nomination into the World Food Championships.

Keys is a hobbyist entrant in these types of contests. But that hasn’t impeded her results. Her two original recipes in the wild rice contest secured her a spot in the finale.

The Kennett Square grandmother has also won several professional recognitions for her local culinary skill. She snagged a $25,000 prize from America’s Test Kitchen and a grand prize culinary tour of France in a Pepperidge Farms cook-off.
