West Chester-based A. Duie Pyle, a transportation and logistics provider, is one of the Philadelphia region’s family-owned companies with the highest revenue, writes Sharon Oliver for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Top 50 companies that made the list of the largest family-owned businesses in the region have a total of 10,917 local employees (and 89,928 employees nationwide).

The entities — which include companies whose headquarters are here and those owned elsewhere but with a Philadelphia-area office — reported a whopping $14.25 billion in revenue in 2020.

Out of the 50, five companies accounted for 43 percent or $6.13 billion of that money.

A. Duie Pyle is fourth among these five who had revenue last year of $504 million. The company also ranked second based on the number of total local employees (1,178).

The two lists are the best indicators of the importance of family-owned businesses to both the local and national economy.
