Chester Springs native Corey O’Brien, a dancer and choreographer, has made a short film that chronicles his alcoholism and the path to recovery, writes David Hudson for Queerty.com.

O’Brien, 30, is the partner of former NFL player Ryan Russell. The pair shares a YouTube channel, and Russell is often seen in O’Brien’s TikTok videos.

While most of his TikTok videos are cute and funny, O’Brien’s latest project is more serious. The dancer joined forces with the nonprofit Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse to create an artistic film, Freedom, in which he reflects on the part of his life when he turned to alcoholism as a coping mechanism.

Eventually, he was able to find a way to sobriety and learn to love himself.

On Oct. 1, O’Brien will mark nine years of healing. While he still has to monitor himself daily, he is thankful it is not the challenge it once was.

“I will say it’s now just a part of who I am, so it’s not that I’m fighting every day, or struggling, but I am always aware because, without sobriety, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he said.
