The Downingtown area is now home to a new fast-casual dining option — the latest location of the popular Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, writes Donna Rovins for the Daily Local News.

The new eatery is located in the Brandywine Shopping Center in East Caln Township and is owned by West Chester residents Heath and Cindy Mitchem.

“We always wanted to own our own business and leaned in the restaurant direction in those thoughts,” said Heath.

When the couple began making plans to open their business, Capriotti’s kept coming out on top as the best fit. The Mitchems first bought an existing Capriotti’s franchise location in West Whiteland, before deciding to open a new location as well.

But then the pandemic hit.

“We slowed things down for the first two and a half months of COVID to see how it was going to play out,” he said.

However, when they saw the potential for take-out orders, their plans were back on track. The restaurant officially opened on Aug. 30, and things have been going well since then.

A customer favorite has already risen to the top of the menu, “The Bobbie,” made with oven-roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, and mayonnaise.
