VISTA Leadership Megastars – Louis Teti

VISTA Leadership Megastars Louis Teti

Louis Teti, a Coatesville High School graduate, is a Partner at MacElree Harvey who represents individuals and businesses in a wide range of estate, business succession, and tax planning matters.

Teti, who earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Dickinson College and a J.D. from Temple University, said that his proudest professional achievements were serving as President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association in 1999-2000 and being appointed by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 2004 to Chair its lawyers’ Disciplinary Board.

Teti offered his thoughts on what makes a successful leader.

“An effective leader is believable, sincere, and trustworthy, and he/she establishes credibility with the persons whom they are leading,” said Teti. “A strong leader sets an example to be emulated, and he/she remains positive, optimistic, and passionate, even during the tough times.”

He said his friend and former Eagles coach Dick Vermeil has had the biggest impact on his career.

“I have learned, especially from Coach Vermeil, that people appreciate a special positive comment from their leader,” Teti said. “A good leader recognizes opportunities to praise the people with whom he/she is associated and helps to make them feel valued. I remember hearing Coach Vermeil say: ‘Take the blame, give credit to others, and if you want credit, go to the bank.’ A good leader strives to be a good example by living his or her message every day.”

Of the 12 Principles of the Scout Law — Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent — “Trustworthy,” “Loyal,” and “Courteous” resonate the most with Teti.

“I would say being trustworthy is at the foundation of my life and career,” he said. “It is so critical in establishing strong relationships, both personal and professional. Being loyal, through good times and bad, is another essential element, and being courteous and respectful through it all is also critical to true success and happiness.”

The Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America will honor Teti and the 11 other VISTA Leadership Megastars at a hybrid awards ceremony on Sept. 14 at its new Program, Activity, and Resource Campus (PARC) in Exton. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Sarah Ponzio at sarah.ponzio@scouting.org or 610-696-2900 x 121.
