The Salvation Army thrift store that has been part of the West Chester community for more than two decades will close for good on Tuesday, Aug. 31, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

According to Army Major Morris McCullough, who oversees the location, the work will be continued by other Salvation Army programs in the area.

“The Salvation Army stresses that assistance for financial hardship and a variety of other life issues will continue to be available through their service office,” said the organization.

The property where the store is located is owned by builder Eli Kahn, who said the Salvation Army was notified a long time ago that the building was going to be demolished and to start looking for a new space.

In place of the current building, the developer is planning to construct affordable housing apartments with underground parking.

At this time, only two employees work at the West Chester store. All other employees were transferred to nearby locations after learning about the closure. The Salvation Army is currently searching for an affordable alternative.

“We will eventually find another store,” said McCullough.
